2019-2020 Spring: Italy & Roman Britain
This term Octavia class will be learning about Italy and also about the different Italian landscapes. Alongside this we will be comparing the Italian landscape with the British landscape. We will be learning about where Italy is located within Europe and also the physical features of Italy.
Within this topic children will have an opportunity to look at various different Italian cities and landmarks, such as the Colosseum in Rome , the Leaning Tower of Pisa , Venice and many more. We will also explore the land uses within Italy, exploring the urban and rural land uses.
Children in Octavia class will also have the opportunity to explore and make some different items from the Italian culture, like pizza on our trip to Pizza Express.
We will also explore the different natural features of Italy. We will look at places like: the River Po; various volcanos; mountains; and coastlines, with looking at the surrounding oceans of Italy. Within looking at volcanos in this region, we will explore the historical eruption of Pompeii. Within looking at disasters, we will also look at floods, landslides and earthquakes around this area. With all this we will also compare the landscape of this magnificat country with the United Kingdom.
Alongside all of this we will also explore different Italian artists like Leonardo Di Vinci and Claude Lorrain. We will also look at the work of Claude Monet and his landscape art. We will also explore Italian opera and different Italian music.
