Mission Statement

In the Early Years at Wisbech St Mary, we value each child as an individual with a unique potential for learning.

By providing a play-based and stimulating environment, both in and outdoors, it will allow children to independently explore and develop their own ideas. Children have the opportunity to take risks, and to be challenged across the prime and specific areas of learning and development. This will be done by fostering theses through engagement, motivation and critical thinking and through facilitating equal learning opportunities for all children regardless of their skill and abilities.

‘In the Moment Planning’ and immediate teachable moments, support children’s interests will be explored, and their next steps will be addressed. Well established structure, routines and boundaries allow a sense of belonging for the children and promote positive, respectful relationships with both peers and adults alike. This gives our pupils opportunities to be curious, explore, try new things and experience awe and wonder of the world in which they live, through the seven areas of learning.

We support this with the Primary Knowledge Curriculum (PKC) which has been developed by experts and is sequenced in a way that allows pupils to transfer key knowledge to long-term memory. It is sequenced so that new knowledge and skills build on what has been taught before and pupils can work towards clearly defined end points and provide our children with experiences and opportunities to help them progress and achieve success.

We aim to achieve our curriculum intent by providing teaching and learning in an enabling and engaging environment where everyone is cared for, valued and respected.

We are registered for children from the age of two (if funded), or two years nine months (if not funded), until school age.  We work within the Early Years Foundation Stage, with the support and guidance of qualified teachers. Each child is encouraged to develop at their own pace, ensuring their time at pre-school is fun, whilst still developing their Personal, Social and Emotional Wellbeing in  readiness for their transition into their next educational provider.

We are committed to working in partnership with professionals, parents and the community; using their feedback to provide the best possible experiences for our children.
