Olympic Legacy Sport Premium Funding
Wisbech St Mary CE Academy
Funding to be received: £16,000
In April 2013, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and sport. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision. The funding is for the period September 2019 - July 2020. This funding is ring fenced to be used for sport specific areas to make an impact in Physical Education and Sport in schools.
Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and Sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
During the academic year September 2019 to July 2020 we plan to spend our funding in the following areas:
Purchasing indoor and outdoor sports equipment
Purchasing a progressive PE scheme which allows for challenge and differentiation
Funding pool hire for swimming lessons for pupils (including a qualified lifeguard)
Offering free after school sporting activities and travel to and from competitive sporting activities through the Witchford partnership.
Last year only 56% of our pupils were able to swim 25 metres on leaving KS2. Our priority this year has been targetting children within Year 6 (after SATs have taken place) to ensure that they have and intensive 6 week course of swimming lessons with a hired swimming coach. Our latest results have increased by 20% (76%) and more children are now able to complete the statutory 25m by the end of Year 6.
