ICT and Computing

At Wisbech St Mary C of E Academy, we teach Computing by ensuring there are opportunities for learning in the following four areas: understanding technology, E-Safety, programming and digital literacy.

Understanding Technology

We aim for pupils to understand the purpose of a range of technology. They will also learn of the links between technologies, and how these can form networks. Pupils will develop a secure understanding of the services offered by the Internet for communication and collaboration, as well as progressing on to using the World Wide Web.

E-Safety

We aim for pupils to understand the dangers and risks when using on-line services. Pupils will develop an understanding of how to minimise risk when using the Internet, as well as how to conduct themselves respectfully when communicating and collaborating on-line. Pupils will also learn of the importance of privacy, security and copyright, as well as developing strategies for how to communicate and manage concerns regarding online content, contact or conduct.

Programming

We aim for pupils to understand how to create, debug and implement instructions, in order to program algorithms. Pupils will develop an understanding of how to control and manipulate digital devices, including programming, coding, logo and animation. Pupils will learn about sequencing, repetition, and develop logical reasoning. Pupils will then progress onto deconstructing programs.

Digital Literacy

We aim for pupils to use and incorporate a range of digital devices into their learning. Pupils will create and access a range of digital content including images (still and moving), video, audio, and text. Pupils will progress onto researching and retrieving online content. They will then be able to manipulate and store content in a variety of ways. Pupils will become increasingly aware of the importance of evaluating digital content, as well as digital resources.
