2023-2024 SUMMER

Welcome to Year 2!

Dear Parents and Visitors,

We are thrilled to share the exciting learning adventures that
await our Year 2 students this summer term.

In mathematics, the children will consolidate their previous learning in areas of place value, multiplication and division, as well as learn how to make different totals with money and calculate change. In place value, the children will recap over the concept of partitioning two-digit numbers, making different combinations of a two-digit number, finding ten more and ten less than a number and rounding to the nearest ten. They will use these skills to calculate addition and subtraction of two-digit numbers and solve word problems.

In English, the children will be delving into suspense stories where they will learn a model text story based on the story 'The Dark' by Lemony Snickett. The children will learn how to write setting descriptions using their senses that will have their readers on the edge of their seats! Additionally, they will have lots of opportunities to experiment with the concept of 'show not tell' and through drama and apply this within their writing. At the end of the unit, the children will be expected to write their own suspense story where they will innovate the model text to include their own characters and spooky setting.

Please see our curriculum overview to find out what other exciting learning the children will be experiencing this term.

Kindest regards,

The Wisbech St. Mary Year 2 Team
