Hudson Class - Reception

Hudson Class

Reception

Welcome to Hudson Class Page!

In Hudson, we value each child as an individual with a unique potential for learning. By providing a play-based and stimulating environment, both inside the classroom  and in the outdoor area, it allows children to explore and develop their own ideas, both independently and working with friends and adults. Children are able to access a range of experiences and activities throughout the day, some of which will be adult led and some will be child initiated, where they will be learning through play.

Children have the opportunity to take risks, and to be challenged across the prime and specific areas of learning and development. This is done through engagement, motivation, opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving, building upon and developing the characteristics of effective learning.

We aim to deliver our curriculum by providing positive teaching and learning in an enabling and engaging environment where everyone is cared for, valued and respected.

Curriculum Overview

2023-2024  SUMMER

Summer term in Hudson class!

During the first half of the term children will be learning about ‘Kings and Queens’. We will cover our monarch, King Charles III, and will become familiar with some key features of our monarchy including people in the Royal Family, special places and traditions. Children will recognise the Union Jack and the Royal Standard flag, and will understand that on special occasions the King wears a crown and sits on a throne, such as a coronation. We will be learning about royal buildings such as Buckingham Palace, Sandringham House and Windsor Castle. Children will then learn about King John and the Magna Carta, and finally, they will start to learn about our government.

As we move to the second half of the summer term, we will begin to explore the wonderful world of minibeasts! This is a great opportunity for the children to understand and respect the natural world. They will learn how to be gentle and kind to all living creatures and the best way to do this is by seeing minibeasts first-hand by getting outside! As we are fortunate enough to have a Forest School, we will be venturing out on minibeast hunts and exploring in the wooded area as much as possible. The children will have the chance to gain knowledge of different species, their life cycles and their habitats. Amongst other minibeasts, we will be learning about caterpillars, butterflies, snails, bees, dragonflies and worms.
