Godfrey Class - Year 1

Godfrey Class

Year 1

Welcome to Year 1 Class Page!

Our ethos within Year 1 is to promote a love of independent learning. The indoor and outdoor environments are carefully planned and richly resourced to allow for curriculum coverage to be achieved through a provision based approach and purposeful experiences. We aim to build upon the characteristics of effective learning which underpin the EYFS and provide our children with opportunities to be critical thinkers and problem solvers. Supporting adults have a deep understanding of how to ensure children's experiences are developmentally appropriate and ensure learning is advanced by the use of careful interactions and open ended questioning.

Please see the curriculum overview attached for more details of what we will learning throughout this term.

2023-2024 SUMMER

Welcome to the start of a new term in Godfrey Class!

We are thrilled to embark on an enriching educational journey during the Summer Term, where we'll be delving into fascinating topics.

This term, we're excited to immerse ourselves in the captivating realms of Animals and Plants. Get ready to explore various animal groupings, take inspiring trips to the Cambridge Botanical Gardens, and nurture our green thumbs as we grow an array of plants in our outdoor area!

In Geography, we'll broaden our horizons as we delve into The World, uncovering its diverse landscapes, cultures, and wonders.

Our historical exploration will lead us through the corridors of Parliament and the legacies of Prime Ministers. From James II, Mary II, and William of Orange to Simon de Montfort and Robert Walpole, we'll journey through pivotal moments in history, culminating in an examination of modern-day elections and our current Prime Minister.

Art will be a canvas for creativity as we hone skills in accurately copying shapes, mastering colour matching, and experimenting with watercolours. We'll also delve into the nuances of choosing the right brush, drawing human figures from manikins, and skillfully arranging elements in our thematic exploration of "Paintings of Children." Later in Summer 2, we'll sculpt with clay, experiment with plaster casting, and refine our painting techniques to capture intricate details, all while exploring the medium's possibilities.

We invite you to peruse our comprehensive curriculum overview for a detailed preview of the subjects and topics we'll be covering throughout the term.

We're brimming with enthusiasm for the term ahead and are dedicated to cultivating a dynamic and stimulating learning environment. Your continued support is invaluable, and we eagerly anticipate a term filled with growth, discovery, and achievement.

Thank you for joining us on this journey, and here's to a productive and rewarding term ahead!
